Ban on cadmium in solder
Under EU Ordinance no. 494/2011 dated 20 May 2011, the use and putting into circulation of solders with a cadmium content greater than 0.01 % by weight will no longer be permitted in the EU from 10 December 2011.
This Ordinance is binding and applies to all member states of the EU.
This means that solders containing cadmium may no longer be processed after 10 December 2011. In addition, the production of these solders is also banned from this date. For their part, Carl Schaefer GmbH & Co. KG will also immediately stop production of solders containing cadmium, and stop their sale from 1 December 2011.
We are happy to advise which cadmium-free solders are suitable for particular applications.
